Back-to-School Bash at New Tampa Regional Library

New Tampa’s back to school event took place on Friday August 12th from 12 to 5 PM. We showed movies in one room, offered video gaming in another, and crafts for different grade levels in the big community room. While the crafting went on, students were invited to enter a trivia contest for school-supply prizes.

The Friends of the New Tampa Library generously provided a groaning table-full of school supplies tailored to the needs of the community. Local middle and elementary school lists were consulted so that students could win items that they actually needed to fulfill the lists’ requirements. Attending families eagerly took advantage of this opportunity.

This event featured two special guests, also funded by the New Tampa Friends: TumbleBus Tampa for the younger kids (this is a gymnasium on wheels operated by two trained gymnastic coaches) and local rock band Slightly Removed for older kids.

More than 200 people attended and it went off really well, largely due to the cooperation and participation of the New Tampa Library’s Teen Advisory Board members who staffed each activity.

This is just one example of the great programming we have for kids at the local library. Please come out and see some of the great programs we have scheduled for the fall.
