According to the Chinese calendar, the New Year does not begin on January 1, but on the day of the first new moon of the first month. This year, January 26 is the first day of this major celebration that traditionally does not end until 15 days later. It is also known as the Year of the Ox because the Chinese calendar is divided into 12 parts with each part being represented by a different animal.
